Can ArtCraft Replace Adobe Creative Cloud?
ArtCraft is worth trying for selected everyday tasks, but its apps are not a one-for-one replacement for an entire Adobe workflow. Choose by the work you must deliver, the editable file your recipient expects and the features your existing project depends on.
Seven workflows to compare
This table reports official documentation, not a side-by-side file test. Adobe application roles are described in Adobe’s Creative Cloud catalog ↗. ArtCraft evidence is linked in each row.
| Task | ArtCraft documented capability | Adobe workflow | File handoff / limit | Source / documentation version | How to choose |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photoshop: layered image edits | Layers, masks, type and PSD workflows are documented. | Photoshop is the Adobe application for this task; see Adobe’s product catalog. | Keep the PSD original; compare fonts, masks, blend modes and editable layers on reopening. | 0.10.0 / 03d0c7e3b39c ↗ | Try a copy for self-contained image work; retain Photoshop for required PSD handoff until verified. |
| Illustrator: vector illustration | SVG, PDF and PDF-compatible AI exchange are documented. | Illustrator is the Adobe application for this task; see Adobe’s product catalog. | Proprietary AI editing data is not written. An exported PDF or SVG does not guarantee an editable Illustrator master. | 0.13.1 / 9e7929ee8966 ↗ | Try SVG-led work; verify layer structure and typography for AI delivery. |
| Premiere Pro: timeline editing | Video editing with interchange via FCP7 XML, AAF or OTIO is documented. | Premiere Pro is the Adobe application for this task; see Adobe’s product catalog. | Native .prproj import is explicitly unavailable; transitions, media links and effects need checking after interchange. | 0.9.0 / fb4cbda47a13 ↗ | Try a short independent edit; keep Premiere for ongoing native project exchanges. |
| After Effects: motion graphics | Composition, keyframe and rendered-frame automation is documented. | After Effects is the Adobe application for this task; see Adobe’s product catalog. | The README explicitly excludes opening AEP/AEPX and running After Effects plug-ins. | 0.12.0 / ef74d82902ba ↗ | Use for a new self-contained composition; retain After Effects for AEP or plug-in requirements. |
| Lightroom: photo library and raw development | Local photo-library, raw development and image export workflows are documented. | Lightroom is the Adobe application for this task; see Adobe’s product catalog. | Do not assume Lightroom catalog, edits, presets or cloud state migrate. Compare raw rendering and metadata on a small set. | 0.9.1 / d999e382bafb ↗ | Try a new local shoot; preserve the existing catalog and originals. |
| Acrobat: PDF organization | Read, combine, split and secure PDF workflows are documented. | Acrobat is the Adobe application for this task; see Adobe’s product catalog. | Check annotations, form behavior, fonts and recipient rendering; certify advanced requirements separately. | 0.9.0 / ec0a965074f3 ↗ | Try routine page work; retain Acrobat when a recipient mandates its signing or production workflow. |
| InDesign: page layout | IDML import/export, INDD import through indd-utils and PDF/EPUB output are documented. | InDesign is the Adobe application for this task; see Adobe’s product catalog. | Import is not proof of INDD round-trip editing. Check reflow, linked assets, fonts, bleed and printer requirements. | 0.9.0 / 443ea4640ca3 ↗ | Try a new layout or IDML copy; keep InDesign for an unverified INDD master handoff. |
Separate opening, editing, saving and returning a file
A successful import only answers the first question. On a duplicate, inspect the content, make a meaningful edit, save in a separate file, reopen it and ask the receiving application to reopen the export. Check fonts, linked media, color, effects and editability. Preserve the original and a visual reference. This is a recommended acceptance check, not a test completed for this guide.
A rendered PNG, video or PDF can be an acceptable final delivery while losing the structure needed for later edits. Agree the deliverable with the client before replacing the source application.
Choose by the project you have
For a new personal project with no required native handoff, start with one small task and keep reversible copies. For client work or a team exchanging Adobe masters, keep the existing application until a representative exchange is accepted. For plug-in or catalog dependent work, list those dependencies before a pilot.
