Install ArtCraft Launcher on Linux
Linux gives you several files with nearly the same name. Pick by architecture first, package format second. The official Launcher releases ↗ are the place to make that choice. On 2026-10-29 the latest tag was v0.9.0; use the tag shown when you download, not a version copied from an older article.
Run uname -m in a terminal. Most Intel/AMD 64-bit machines report x86_64; 64-bit Arm machines report aarch64. The matching part of the release asset's name must agree. A file for another CPU is not a fallback.
| Your setup | A reasonable first pick | Why you might choose something else |
|---|---|---|
| Ubuntu, Debian or Linux Mint | A matching .deb | An AppImage may be simpler if you do not want a system package. Mint versions vary with their Ubuntu/Debian base; a .deb suffix alone does not promise compatibility. |
| Fedora or a compatible RPM distribution | A matching .rpm | AppImage avoids installing a system RPM, but it still needs the runtime expected by that build. |
| You want a portable file | A matching .AppImage | Keep it in a permanent folder if you later make a menu shortcut; moving the file will break that shortcut. |
| You already use Flatpak | A matching .flatpak bundle, if the release has one | A downloaded bundle is not automatically a configured remote for future updates. |
Install the file you actually downloaded
Replace FILE with its full filename; do not type the placeholder literally.
- AppImage: chmod +x FILE.AppImage, then ./FILE.AppImage from that folder. Do not run a downloaded AppImage with sudo.
- Debian, Ubuntu or Mint: sudo apt install ./FILE.deb. The ./ matters: it tells apt to install your local file.
- Fedora: sudo dnf install ./FILE.rpm. If your distribution uses a different package manager, use its own instructions.
- Flatpak bundle: flatpak install --user ./FILE.flatpak, then start the installed application from your app menu.
The commands show how to handle the package types; they are not a claim that we installed every build on every Linux distribution. If the current release notes name dependencies or a different update procedure, follow those notes.
First launch: prove one small thing works
Open Launcher, confirm its visible version and wait for the catalog. Install one Craft App, open it and save a disposable file. That separates a broken Launcher install from a broken app install or a file-permission problem. If you only need PhotoCraft, its standalone installers may be the shorter route. The main Launcher guide covers updates, accounts, offline behavior and removal across platforms.
If it stops here
Permission denied on an AppImage usually calls for checking execute permission and the ./ launch path. Exec format error calls for comparing uname -m with the filename. For a missing library, Flatpak update failure or repeated permission prompt, keep the exact terminal output, distro version, CPU, asset name and Launcher version. Search the official issue tracker ↗; several package-specific reports exist, but a report is not proof that your installation has the same cause. The broader Launcher troubleshooting guide covers network and startup symptoms.
