Craft Apps Guide

Record and deliver a podcast with SoundCraft

SoundCraft's official README describes recording, editing and mixing, with WAV, AIFF and FLAC output. If your podcast host asks for MP3 or AAC, plan a separate conversion after exporting a master: the project's current capability notes do not list compressed export. This is a workflow guide, not a claim that we recorded an episode in every setup.

Before you record

Decide how each speaker reaches the computer. SoundCraft's published capability notes describe default input and output devices, so choose the intended microphone and headphones in your operating system first. Record a short sample, play it back and listen for missing voices, echo or a speaker on the wrong channel. Keep the original recording files. If a call service supplies separate speaker tracks, retain those originals before importing them.

Edit an episode without losing the source

  1. Save a session with a clear episode name. Record or import the voice tracks and label them so the two speakers are easy to identify.
  2. Listen once before cutting. Mark obvious mistakes, long silences and interruptions; leave natural breaths unless they cause a specific problem.
  3. Make the cuts on a working copy. Check the join after every edit by listening across it, not by looking at the waveform alone.
  4. Balance the voices and any intro music. Listen on headphones and on a small speaker or phone; music should not hide speech.
  5. Save the session, then export a short review copy before the final master. Listen to the exported file from its first second through the ending.

These are editorial steps a reader can follow. They do not imply a tested audio quality score, supported hardware interface or automatic podcast publishing feature.

File or destinationPublished support and practical route
WAV, AIFF, FLACThe official README lists them for import and export. Use one as the master if your recipient accepts it.
MP3, AACSoundCraft can import them, but compressed export is listed as missing. Export a WAV master and convert a copy with a separate tool if your host requires one.
SoundCraft sessionKeep the session and original media if someone may need to re-edit. An audio master alone is not the editable project.

If recording has no signal, check the operating system's default input and the official issue list before changing edit settings. If the host rejects your file, compare its stated format and size requirements with the exported file rather than assuming any WAV will be accepted.
