BIMCraft: check the owner before the download
Search for “BIMCraft” and you will find more than one repository. This guide is about IPedrax/BIMCraft ↗, an independent open-source BIM project. It is not in ArtCraft's official list of 13 Craft Apps ↗. There is also a getcadcraft/bimcraft repository ↗. Before copying an install command from a video, article or search result, look at the owner in the GitHub address. The two projects should not share a version number or feature list in your notes.
| When you see this | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| github.com/IPedrax/BIMCraft | The source for the project discussed on this page. Use its Releases ↗ and README together. |
| github.com/getcadcraft/bimcraft | A different maintainer. Do not use IPedrax commands or download names without checking this project's own documentation. |
| getartcraft.com/apps | The official Craft Apps family. BIMCraft is not listed among its 13 apps. |
IPedrax's README ↗ describes walls, doors, rooms, plans, sections, 3D views, sheets and IFC import/export, plus its own .bimcraft project file. That is a promising workflow to explore if you want to model a small building. It is not evidence that a live Revit project will round-trip without loss.
A first task worth doing
Open IPedrax's latest release ↗ and match its OS and CPU asset to your computer. On 2026-10-29 the visible latest tag was v0.9.0; check the current tag before downloading. If the release includes SHA256SUMS, compare your downloaded asset with its matching line. A source archive is for building, not the desktop installer.
If you prefer to build from source, the repository currently specifies Rust 1.90 or newer for its engine/CLI and 1.95 for the desktop app. From a cloned repository, its documented sample command is cargo run --release -p bimcraft -- --sample. Open the sample house, look at a plan and the 3D view, then save a separate copy. That gives you a concrete first look at the workflow without risking a real client model. If IFC exchange is the reason you came, export a small permitted model and open it in the BIM software that will receive it. Record missing objects or changed dimensions instead of judging from a screenshot alone.
For ordinary drafting rather than building information modeling, → CADCraft may be closer to the task; SolidCraft is another independent project. Their names do not make BIMCraft part of the Craft Apps family.
We have not installed BIMCraft or run an IFC exchange for this article. The workflow and requirements above come from IPedrax's README ↗; the version comes from its Releases ↗, both checked 2026-10-29.
